I agree 2nd holiday season will be very crazy for the big 4.

It won't be a "big 4" by this holiday, though.

As for BotW reaching 12m, wow. Never thought I'd see the day a Zelda game would make 10m, never mind this easily.

The dynamic of Zelda has changed some what with BOTW as the game is positioned in a way that's similar to games like GTA (ironic as GTA exists because of Zelda), we saw with OOT and TP that the series has the anticipation and selling power that can rival Mario along with the type of AAA appeal mainstream games have and BOTW is really the first game in the series to fully move on that aspect tbh.

I think we're seeing a future for this series where it goes down a similar path as Mario with its 2d and 3d games especially as the games are taking longer to develop, we'll likely get a 3d title that will play the GTA type role for its platform as the game that really pushes it and a possible top down Zelda game.

Personally, I feel like 3D Zelda (BOTW especially) makes 2D Zelda obsolete. It has the essential elements of exploration, sword fighting, character growth, and maybe puzzles. 3D Mario, on the other hand, cannot replicate the essential platforming feel of 2, which is why it cannot sell 20-30 million. But maybe that's just me, and maybe Odyssey willpass 20mln...

Also, a 2D multiplayer Zelda with more action and less puzzles than 4 swords could change my tune.

Now at around 120 hours of play, I just found the Forgotten Temple which I somehow missed despite riding passed twice before, and the sand seal race with I also somehow passed several times without even seeing it, probably cos I relied too much on my Shiekah Sensor to notify me of nearby shrines and neither set it off due to proximity or the shrine not being unearthed yet. Also finally bagged the giant horse; named him Horace. Far out he's a beauty. Majestic and intimidating at the same time.

Any game when I can still be discovering new areas and challenges 120 hours in (and which still feels compelling after so much playtime) is a pretty remarkable one in my book.

My son got to his second beast, Vah Medoh, he went to Zora's first...well, first is bit of a stretch, he dicked around endlessly with bombs, collecting weapons and doing shrines until he got 13 hearts to get Master Sword...now he's finaly fighting enemies with weapons...well, mostly one weapon...mostly.

For some reason (well, he is ASD, after all) he plays BotW only when I'm home and sit with him, and since I don't have a heart to tell him no, I have a chance to revisit some of the locations again that I forgot completely (tbh, after my playthrough, only location that I remembered vividly after a while was Gerudo town) - all I can say is there are some really nice things in the game, but oh boy, the things I thought were bad the first time (and there's plethora of that) seem even worse this time around.

At least he's liking the game a lot.

This will peaked at least 20 million copies.

It's the only game of this length and style I've been able to play through twice. I think that really says something about just how good it is. I hope we get a new title in late 2020.

He probably just wants to share it with you. I have ASD, and when I was a kid I used to try to get my friends and family to watch me play the games I enjoyed or watch the movies I enjoyed with me.

Given how long it took to make BOTW, I'm not expecting its successor to arrive until 2021 at the earliest, but I'd love to be wrong.

That doesn't make much sense imo, especially since BotW plays nothing like the other Zelda games. 2D Zelda still has its place (Now more than ever), and if we get a new one I really hope it keeps the old Zelda formula intact since I've been craving for a new Zelda game for a while now.

Yeah, though I find it strange that he wants to share this particular game with me...especially since he knows I don't like it that much. I don't know, maybe he feels that he's...safer perhaps, since I gave him few pointers early on in the game...not that he lacks skill, for example, he just told me today that he finished Cuphead, and both Portals are among his favourite games....so who knows.

Important part is he's enjoying it quite a bit, it is now his favourite Zelda...which is quite fine of course, I don't want to influence him that way, though I do tend to point out bad design choices while he's playing it.

If they pull a Majora's Mask and reuse the game engine I could see it being relatively soon. And it's a very solid and fun engine so I'd like to see a sequel using it, both to play with it some more and to see a quick sequel to such a great game.
