Nintendo tends to create ideas and then they see what IPs fit with the idea and since it is hard for new IPs to sell well they just use one of their well known IPs to sell it which is better as it will sell millions plus add a fresh coat of "new" in that IP.
but of course every now and then they do bring new IPs like Pikmin, Wario, Wii something and a couple of other games developed by second parties. I honestly don't want to constantly buy new IPs that I don't feel any "love" for. I want Nintendo consoles for Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, DK, MK and so on and whenever there are new IPs from Nintendo I might give them a try to
those who complain probably don't like their IPs anymore or have never loved them
R.I.P Mr Iwata :'( | ||
Why?
Hipocricy. That's why.
Many of the people that say Nintendo is milking their franchises are expecting the 4th Uncharted game or the yearly Halo game.
Supposedly graphics doesn't matter and now the Monolith games is "above" every other console game. Amazing grafxs!
Remember when Vita will likely destroy 3DS in sales? Well, now the only thing that matters is how much fun you have with it.
And we can continue...

I'd go with that, I'm not complaining or anything - thoroughly enjoy all things Mario, milked or otherwise.
Way too much Mario, even I'm getting tired of him
They are all very different games in terms of gameplay, but in terms of setting, and characters, they all have a lot in common. It's kinda annoying. IMO, they should of had 2D Mario, & 3D Mario and that's it. Putting Mario in everything certainly guarantees at least some success but it is a bit obsessive.
Mario Kart sells extremely well so there is no turning back now but IMO they should have just kept F-Zero as their racing game instead of abandoning it. I am very happy that Animal Crossing & Pikmin are different because they could of easily been Mario Life and 100 Mario's.
They seem to be getting a bit better though, hopefully Mario Party and the Mario Sports games are officially over in favor of Mii's. That might just be wishful thinking...

I agree. Although they really need to make a new Mario Smah Football for WiiU. You can't replace that masterpiece with Miis
I like it when Nintendo wheel out the franchises that are absent for long periods, ie Kid Icarus uprising is superb and a new IP in itself. I hope we get more of F Zero. Wave Race, 1080, etc, im sure those games would look and play great on WiiU.
IHMO, Nintendo passed the point of "Milking Franchises" many years ago and are now Milking a cow that has been dead, infested and corpse for 10 years. But that's what the people want so why spend money on any new cows.
Without order nothing can exist - without chaos nothing can evolve.

pokoko said: I understand your point, but ... Mario. They brand so many things as Mario. I'm surprised Pikman wasn't a game where you control a bunch of miniature Mario pawns. I'd bet anything it was considered. And how Animal Crossing escaped Mario branding I'm not sure. Mario Crossing sounds so very Nintendo. Honestly, that's a read turn-off for me, especially since the Mario characters are so flat and uninspired. It just feels like a complete absence of creativity. |
That does not sound like a good game, at all.
