Forums - General Discussion - Help with PS3!

I just bought a PS3 (!!!) and i need some help on how to connect it online!! Any help would be appreciated!!!

Have you read the instructions?

Good to see this site is still going

There are two ways ,trough the ethernet cable or Wifi .

In the XMB in the right side you will find the adjustements column ,go to Online Adjustements and then you have to create your conexion .If it is wired it is very easy ,you plug the cable ,select "wired " in the options of the first page of the process and the PS3 will automatically detect your conection .

Wifi is tougher ,you need some data from your ISP .Some codes (VCI and VPI I think ,dont know if in english are the same ) and the encapsulation method .Then you have to put the WEP code to access your wireless router or point of access .The DNS numbers .In "obtain IP " you have to set it to "automatic " .And your username and password in the ISP service of course .Once all this done the PS3 should be able to connect through Wifi to your router and from then on it should be always online .

Thanks! And something else, i bought Resistance but i can't play it because the system Version is 1.31 and when i try to update it says: No applicable update data was found.

I downloaded via PC the 1.60 firmware but i don't know in which folder i should put it on my MS Duo Pro.

Any help with that?

Well I tried to update the console to the 1.70 firmware downloading it through internet and putting it in a USB pendrive (it was some 100 Mb the firmware ) and it didnt let me do it .I dont know if a concrete folder has to be created or if the archive must be in a special name or something.I cant help you with that  .The easiest way is in the XMB in the same right column where you found the Online Adjustements seek for the "system update " option .The console automatically conects to internet and downloads then installs the newest firmware available .To do that ,of course ,you must first fix your internet connection .

Now that I remember the VCI and VPI arent neccesary to configure the PS3 connection ,they are only indispensable to configure your wireless router .And the same about your ISP password and username ,those must be put in the router gateway but not in the PS3 .

If you have a router you must let it be accesed from other machines as the PS3 or PSP .

You should tell me wich is your conection method of choice ,what kind of router or point of access you have etc,it would be easier for me to help you .

It depends .Some games allow worlwide gaming(Resistence it seems ) ,some others only play with the people of your region .Others as Motorstorm lets you choose if you want to play with the people of the Australia/NZ or the ones of Europe .That depends where you registered your console ,not if your console is japanese or not .
