to bad blue ray sucks. We will be stuck with a stupid sony owned format. This won't be good.

this is another genius!

Yep.

Last I knew Sony didn't 'own' blue ray, they only support it.

Good to see this site is still going

Apparently, some taiwanese company got a little ahead of themselves.

Rumors.. all the time...

This is one of the most evil example of vaporware and FUD you can do.

I told you Enderle "facts" and analysis were nonsense, and now, they're just completely destroyed.

I won't play conspiracy theorist here, but I have a pretty good idea of where this come from.

Actually, I had a pretty good idea as soon as I saw Enderle come into this.

well, with wal-mart out of the way BR has pretty much won.  The only thing left to do to make sure is to take the market in Europe.

What exactly BR has won is still yet to be determined.  How much impact will BR actually have on the movie industry we don't know.  I think this is gonna be a very slow transition to BR if it happens, but there could be another superior format that comes out before BR can really take hold.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

As I already said in the other thread, nothing has been decided yet - owning a niche market doesn't have any significance. I don't think MS and Broadcom developed the HD DVD playback reference design just to keep their employees busy. Cheap HD DVD players from China WILL come for sure, be it via Wal-Mart or other discounters.

Besides, it still isn't even clear whether HD media will be able to become mainstream at all (I assume they will, but not before 2009).

And I still think this format war is just a way to raise consciousness of the formats faster than happened for DVD. Once both go mainstream, Toshiba and Sony (who would have gone against each other last time, but joined to make DVD) will suddenly call a truce.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Let's see how well Apple TV and its copycats sell.  I wouldn't be surprised if it blows past both HD DVD and Blu Ray.  If that happens the big question will be why did Sony cause so much harm to its large video game division to control a high end niche market.

NO Sony created the format. They get royalties from every movie sold on blu ray. The reason it sucks is cause SONY in theory can do whatever they want to blue ray discs meaning it will be worst for movie studios if sony decides to be assholes.

IF you didnt know that other formats sony create were betamax, mini disc, umd.

As far as actual players sold hd has sold way more than bluray and as far as movies sold bluray has only sold about 2k more than hd. You can't count the ps3 as a bluray player its a game machine i really dont think that people who have a ps3 bought it for bluray they bought it for the games. Since it dosent have that many good games on it right now and the fact that it's in 3rd place all the sony fans have a lot of time to post over and over that sony has won the hd format war just so they can say that sony is winning at something even if it's only by a small margin. People who are thinking of going hd should check out hddvd.org they have news updates everyday about both formats. The video game forums you only get one side of the info because the ps3 plays bluray.
