All around, I hear that Diablo 3 is a huge disappointment. It sold well but it did so by namesake alone. If that game had been any other name and released by any other company, it would have failed.

That's what i've heard too....

and yet when I check my steam tab... what game are all my complaining friends playing?

Diablo 3.

The worst reaction to your game is apathy.

Passionate hatred means they care about the game deeply and want to see it better. Blizzard are very good at getting people invested in their products beyond the time that they play them (WoW and Starcraft especially)

hah, nice try EA marketer!

Well, in that case people hate because they know EA can do better. Them, and the companies they have bought and killed off, have produced a large number of the classic PC games of all time.

Psvita is doing quite bad and people won't stop hating on it. I haven't played Diablo 3 (or any Diablo games), but the fact that the game sold so well in its first week suggests that it sold on name alone. The rest of the sales might have been positive feedback by some players or people who were curious about it etc. I'm sure there are many who actually loved it, but it seems that the majority didn't.

Same thing happened with FF XIII, though in opinion, if it was called anything else, it would have been praised endlessly by video gamers. As someone who had never played a ff game before XIII, i thought it was amazing.

Blizzard just has to release a game with Starcraft, Warcraft, or Diablo on it and it will sell millions (considering they usually take many years before they even release a game).  However, they did cancel Warcraft Adventures due to not standing up to their quality (very disappointed when they canceled Starcraft Ghost).  I was a huge Blizzard fan (after moving from Westwood before EA bought them out) but now I really don't give a shit.  I put 1,000 of hours into Starcraft, Diablo 1+2, and WoW yet I have almost zero urge in getting any of their new games.  Perhaps my taste have changed but I wasn't impressed at all with SC2 when I played it on beta.  I even made a thread awhile back Blizzard has fallen.  While most Blizzard fans wouldn't go that far there are a decent amount of Blizzard fans that feel like they are losing their touch.  The splitting of SC2 into three campaign releases didn't help with my image of Blizzard either.

Games do not sell 8 million copies on name alone.

The game is good on the first run through and that's all you can expect from a one time purchase. The complaining is from people that have put 50 hours into the game but expected not to be bored after playing the same content 3 times. Anyone play the CoD campaign 3 times and expect it to be fresh?

Diablo 2 had some of the best replay value in any game. You could beat it over a dozen and still continue playing. This is where Diablo 3 fails.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I agree. I'm just saying it's still great value for a game; not a disappointment for its price or for the time invested for the first 3 playthroughs. No one should feel entitled to carry on playing forever with only a single investment, it's not an MMO.

It's only the tiny hardcore player base that are complaining. Blizz's stats show that most people bought SC2 for the (short) campaign and never touched the 1v1 ladder, and presumably they were happy enough with their purchase for SC2 to sell >4m copies. Same goes for Diablo, Blizz were targeting the single playthough because most players do that.

I disagree to an extent.  Sure you could keep playing it but once you got to about high 70 low 80s the only thing that gave you any exp would be Baal runs.  So if you want to do about 100000+ Baal runs to get to high 90s then so be it.  I got one character up to about 94 (assassin) and I just couldn't take it anymore.  Not even sure how many Baal runs I did but it was a shitload.
