@bolded, no, that doesn't make any sense at all Like I said, just look at the exclusive game-starved XBO and you can see that these don't push sales anywhere near as well anymore as they did last gen. If that would be all it takes, then PS4 and XBO would have similar weekly sales by now, but that's far from happening. It needs real exclusives, meaning totally exclusive games or at least platform (like all the Wii U rereleases on Switch)/console (which are also on PC but not on any other console) exclusives to push the hardware. Switch would probably have a somewhat higher baseline with these multiplats and some spike here and there, but that's about it. Just to quote yourself:"Switch is going to live and die on 1st party Nintendo games. 3rd party games and indies are just icing on the cake." Thing is, that's pretty much true for all 3 now. Yes, Crash Team Racing is coming to the Switch, just couldn't make the link between the abbreviation and the game in question. As for teh last line, you didn't get my point. PS4 had a lot of real exclusive games, a thing that the XBO didn't have. Even with Microsoft turning back on pretty much everything they said at their catastrophic E3 reveal, without the exclusive games to incite gamers to choose their platform it couldn't catch up in sales anymore because they banked too much on the multiplats. Microsoft has learned the lesson and is buying studios left and right right now to avoid this situation on the next gen |
For the very simple reason that PS4 have always had a much worldwide presence and more diverse fanbase so a lot of the games in this discussion don't have that big public in Xbox. Now when you look to USA and the games they usually buy, PS4 and X1 aren't that much far apart as when looking WW.

Yeah, some of them look somehow blurry, but frame rate problems from initial trailers dont mean that game will have same frame rate problems when game is actually launched. Talking specifically about DQ11, despite game will be blurrier compared to PS4 version, it will be definitive version of game (it will include 2D mode from the 3DS version, new story, orchestral music and Dual audio). And it doesnt really matter if multiplatform in most cases look worse than PS4/XB1 versions (thats expected), real value of Switch versions of all multi platform games lies in full handheld mode that PS4/XB1 dont offer (and same thing will most likely be even when PS4/XB2 arives). Like I wrote, its not like that Switch is getting even now plenty of AAA current gen games that next gen will effect on Switch support, so I dont expecting big AAA multipaltform games on Switch when PS5/XB2 arives, but more games like we having now (some bigger curent gen games, AA/A games, 3rd party exclusives, last gens ports, Indies..), there is no reason 3rd party completely abandon Switch if they can still make profit on it. And yes, if you have healthy platform with big install game, where you can sell your games, offcourse that some 3rd partys will keep releasing some games to Switch. Wii compared to PS3/X360 is totally different story compared to Switch to PS4/XB1, Wii was much weaker than PS3/360 and didnt support most engines and tools that PS3/X360 supported, while Switch is much closer in power to PS4/XB1 and supports all modern engines and tools. You forget that moment new PS/XB platforms arives on market PS4/XB1 will start receving slower support and have much slower sales in any case, same like was for PS3/360, on other hand Switch will still Nintendo active platform that will still keep selling and receiving support in any case. Well Switch even its still less than 2 years on market have some interesting 3rd party exclusives released/announced (Fast RMX, Snipperclips, Go Vacation, Shin Megami Tensei V, Mario x Rabbids, Travis Strikes Again, Octopath Traveler, Daemon X Machina, Bayonetta 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Astral Chain, Yo-kai Watch 4, Tetris 99..), and we will have much more of them on Switch in any case. And yes, those games and 3rd party platform games help Switch to sell better because simple with 3rd party games Switch lineup is more diverse, and thats important because in that way Switch is reaching market beyond Nintendo fans, even if fact is that Nintendo games easily biggest system seller games on Switch (or any other platform.
Your bigger mistake when you talk about Switch compared to PS4/XB1 or even compared to PS5/XB2, is that you talk like Switch is compete directly with all of them, like people are forced to choose between PS/XB platforms and Switch, while reality is that Switch so much different in any case (going from hybrid concept to Nintendo games and exclusives) compared to PS4/XB1 (and it will be compared to PS5/XB2) that people can have both PS and Switch or Xbox and Switch, or PC and Switch. And sales data exactly shows that, majority Switch owners have PS4 or XB1, that means that PS4 and XB1 owners are buying Switch also. So that why Switch not effect buy to much in any case by PS4/XB2, main point of Switch will be still there and thats Switch hybrid concept and Switch lineup of games, with only difference that in that time period at end of 2020. Switch will have price point of around $200 and at least 1-2 revisions with strong lineup and even more 3rd party support. |
The Switch is different because it isn't so much weaker and uses the same tools falls when you have head person on Nintendo excusing RDR2 not releasing because the game started development before Switch was announced (mind you PS4/X1 didn't at the time as well). Also a lot of current AAA games also don't release on Switch, will we excuse they all on the Switch wasn't announced when designed the game? 2 Years and they didn't had time to have a version?
